Freedom Scholarship Essay

One does not realize the many things in life that are vitally important until those very things are in jeopardy. Failure, disappointment and struggle. Without the freedom of failure, one does not know the freedom of disappointment. Without the freedom of disappointment, one does not know the freedom of struggle. Without the freedom of struggle, one does not know the freedom of success. Imagine our world without these freedoms. Imagine every time you fail, one’s punishment is the decay of developmental progress through life.
Failure is not an option. Yet, failure must be an option. Failure allows us to learn from our mistakes, and grow beyond the previous generations. History books and articles show us the reasons for war, the flailing economic crisis, and corruptive government. And, those failures require society to react with knowledge from its predecessors, as well as its own experience in order to change and enjoy the freedom of success. It is through this adversity people become stronger, more intelligent individuals. The reality of society now is only how the failures from the past recreate the same failures or reconstruct a new productive one.
Disappointment is another word for dissatisfaction, disillusionment, and displeasure. One may question the validity that this is a freedom. Disappointment is most certainly a freedom. If we cannot be free to be disappointed then we will never be free to feel satisfaction. Needs, wants, and desires for a better world becomes obsolete. Without disappointment, life becomes a constant line with no ups or downs.
Struggling makes people work harder. If they did not struggle, there is no need for extra time or effort to be applied to anything. Everyone would be happy with their current state.  Struggle is the process of learning. When we struggle we find strengths which overcome internal and external battles. When one struggles and learns from them, greatness arrives at the end of the journey.
Failure, disappointment, and struggle are the freedoms which make Americans. Who we were; who we are now; who we shall become. These freedoms define the purpose in life, and without them, one becomes a puppet controlled by others. We do not fully understand the importance of these simple freedoms until we are close to losing them. The following quote, “You never know what you have until it is gone,” is quite fitting.
